Teenage Drama Workshop
The Teenage Drama Workshop (TADW) is an intense, six-week, summer stock-style conservatory in which teenagers work with directors, designers, and university students on performing, writing, and technical skills. Students, ages 12-18, attend weekday classes in acting, voice, dance, musical theatre, design, improvisation, and playwriting. In addition to classes, students have the opportunity to perform in the production program that presents live theatre to children and young audiences in the San Fernando Valley. The plays are selected for their value to the community as well as the performers. Begun in 1958, TADW is the longest running workshop of its kind in the nation. - The Center seeks to: facilitate dialogue between diverse peoples, communities and governments; research cultural and social issues and their implications for competent global citizenship; explore diverse processes for social justice; undertake community empowerment programs; train future leaders; educate community, civic and corporate professionals; and provide public education aimed at improving human relations and social justice in local, national and international arenas. There is no similar center in the San Fernando Valley, in California or indeed west of the Mississippi.
The Center also offers a Certificate Program in Communication and Conflict Management, which was created to help community, business and educational leaders address these pressing challenges.
